Where is Hotel Asterbel located?
Hotel Asterbel is located in the Braies Valley on 1400m a.s.l., about 7 km from Lake Braies (Pragser Wildsee). All rooms feature stunning views of the Braies Dolomites. It is the ideal hotel nearby the Lake Braies, for those seeking nature and tranquility.

Does the hotel have a spa?
Yes, Asterbel is the ideal wellness hotel in Braies. Guests enjoy saunas, gym, and a heated indoor pool with sunbathing lawn. From summer 2026, a new heated outdoor saltwater pool with Dolomites view will be available – perfect for relaxing after hikes in summer and in winter. In addition, massages and treatments can be booked.

Is spa access included?
Yes, use of the pool, saunas, and gym is included in the room price. The indoor pool is open daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, the saunas from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Can children use the wellness area?
Children have access to the indoor pool and the children’s sauna, which is open from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The rest of the sauna area is adults only. A dedicated playroom is also available for kids.

Until when can I cancel my stay at Asterbel free of charge?
The cancellation policy depends on the booked rate and season. As a rule, for direct bookings free cancellation is possible up to 14 days before arrival; deposits already paid are retained. The exact conditions can be found in our terms & conditions and in your booking confirmation. We especially recommend families to take out travel cancellation insurance.

Is parking free at the hotel?
Yes, a large free parking area is available directly at the hotel.

What are the check-in and check-out times at Asterbel?
Check-in is available on the day of arrival from 2:00 pm. On the day of departure, we kindly ask you to check out by 10:00 am.

Are pets allowed at Asterbel?
Dogs are welcome at Hotel Asterbel for bookings made directly with the hotel in the room category Komfort or Romantic. Please inform us at the time of booking if you are traveling with your pet. We kindly ask for your understanding that pets are not allowed in certain areas (wellness & sunbathing lawn) and that a supplement applies for stays with dogs or other pets.

What does the 3/4 board include?
With direct booking at the hotel you can enjoy our popular 3/4 board, which includes the breakfast buffet, the traditional Tyrolean afternoon snack and dinner.

Is dinner available if I only book with breakfast?
Yes, if you book room with breakfast only, you can additionally add the afternoon snack and/or the evening menu with South Tyrolean specialties.

Is there a breakfast buffet?
Yes, in the morning a rich breakfast buffet with regional products awaits you: crispy bread varieties, homemade cakes, South Tyrolean cheeses and cold cuts, fresh fruit, muesli and much more.

What is the “Marende” on afternoon wich is included if booked the 3/4 board?
In the afternoon we serve the traditional Tyrolean Marende buffet with drinks, salads, soups, snacks and sweet treats – ideal after an excursion or before relaxing in the spa.

What is served at dinner or what specialties does Hotel Asterbel offer?
Dinner at Asterbel is a culinary experience with South Tyrolean and Mediterranean flavors. You start with the buffet of antipasti, fresh salads and soups, followed by a four-course à la carte menu that changes daily. To finish, a buffet of fresh fruit and homemade desserts awaits you. Our kitchen uses fresh, seasonal and local ingredients – such as game from the region – to create authentic dishes prepared with great artisanal care.

Are drinks included in the price?
No, drinks ordered for example in the restaurant, at the pool or at the hotel bar are not included and are billed at the end of the stay. Our cozy hotel bar with terrace and lounge is open during the day and in the evening.

Does the hotel offer vegan, gluten-free or lactose-free food?
Yes, on request we also prepare vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free dishes. Please let us know your special dietary needs already when booking or at the latest upon arrival, so our kitchen team can prepare accordingly. Please note that a supplement may apply for this service.


Summer & Activities

Can I rent hiking poles or bicycles?
Yes, hiking poles and mountain bikes can be borrowed free of charge at the hotel. E-bikes are available for a fee from our partner Braies Rent, located in summer at the train station in Villabassa/Niederdorf.

What attractions are nearby?
Nearby highlights include Lake Braies, Prato Piazza, and the famous Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Hotel Asterbel at Lake Braies is the perfect base for hikes, excursions, and photo tours in the Dolomites.


Lake Braies

How do I reach Lake Braies?
Lake Braies can be reached in different ways:
By car: between July 10 and September 10, the road is accessible from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm only with a transit permit, which our guests receive free of charge before arrival. Outside these hours, access is open. Changes possible.
By bus: our guests receive a free Guest Pass for bus and train. Buses run regularly and connect the hotel comfortably with the lake.
On foot: Lake Braies can also be reached by a hiking trail. Walking time depends on the route, about 1.5–2 hours – an ideal tour for nature lovers.


Winter & Ski Area

Is Hotel Asterbel directly at the ski lifts?
Yes, the Braies ski lifts are located right in front of the hotel. Guests of Asterbel receive a discount on group ski courses at the Braies Ski School (contact via e-mail and phone).

Is there a toboggan run at the hotel?
New from the winter season 2025/26: a 2 km long toboggan run will be built at the Braies ski lift – the first of its kind in South Tyrol. With special sleds for rent, pulled up by the lift, you will enjoy a unique sledding experience.

Which larger ski areas are nearby?
Several major ski resorts can be reached by car in a short time:
Kronplatz (Valdaora): approx. 20 minutes
Haunold (San Candido): approx. 15 minutes
Helm (Versciaco): approx. 20 minutes

Can you go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing nearby?
Yes, there are numerous perfectly prepared cross-country trails in Braies and the surrounding area. Cross-country equipment and snowshoes can be rented for a fee directly from Alfred at Braies Rent, next to the hotel.
